Found this poem and the next poem in some paperwork of my grandmother's. She lives on the water in Florida...you can see what was on Dad's mind when we visited.

See the ceaseless, creeping tide
Stalk the sleeping shore.
Feel the fearless, flaunting pride,
Hear the haunting roar.

Watch the white-mared waves draw near.
Rippling sinews flow.
Smell the sea-breath, taste the fear.
Wait the crushing blow.

Then a sudden change in mood
Sense the fury pause.
See the snarling waves, subdued.
Sheathe their slashing claws.

See the seething seas retreat,
Put to sudden flight.
Foaming waves on velvet feet
slip into the night.

[this was on another page but I believe it's the continuation of the above poem]
See a thousand serpents rising
High against the dawning skies
See the seething seas come crashing -
Flashing fangs and piercing cries.

Then it's over - hunger sated,
Fury spent and passions gone,
See the tide slip slowly seaward
and move out to greet the dawn.
