No In at the Room: Jonny's Place on Christmas Eve

No In at the Room: Jonny's Place on Christmas Eve

Whose room this is I think I know.
Its floor is somewhere down below.
You can't get in at all from here
With all the clothes and toys and so.

My Jonny seems to think it queer
To want that floor to reappear,
From under clothes and crumbs and cake
His favorite evening of the year.

He gives his head a doubting shake
To ask if there's not some mistake.
But no, Dad wants to hear the sweep
Of broom on crumb and frosted flake.

The pile of clothes and toys is deep
But chores are chores and talk is cheap.
So clean your room, then off to sleep.
Yes, clean your room, then off to sleep.
